What is the Wednesday dance trend?
It is a dance scene from a TV series that people keep recreating years later. In the first season of "Wednesday", the students of Nevermore Academy go to the Rave'N, the school dance, and Wednesday, played by Jenna Ortega, steps onto the floor in a black dress and does a dance nobody else in the room could: sharp head jerks, arms flung out and twisted at the wrist, a jerky shuffle from side to side, and that wide, flat stare that never breaks. The other students in light-colored clothes move out of focus behind her under cold blue light.
Online, the scene became a format. People recreated it in black dresses and braids, at Halloween parties, in school hallways and in bedrooms, and it comes back every October. This trend skips the rehearsal: the dance, the camera and the setting stay, and your face goes onto Wednesday.
Where does the original video come from?
The scene is from episode 4 of "Wednesday", the Netflix series about Wednesday Addams that premiered on November 23, 2022. The poster frame of this trend shows Wednesday in close-up with the Netflix logo in the corner, so the clip comes from the show itself. Jenna Ortega has said she choreographed the dance herself, in about two days.
In the show, the dance is set to "Goo Goo Muck" by The Cramps. On TikTok, though, it went viral in late November 2022 in edits that put the same moves to a sped-up version of Lady Gaga's "Bloody Mary", which is why many people still connect the dance with that song; Lady Gaga posted her own take on it that December. The trend keeps the original sound of this clip, whichever version you know.
Search names differ by country, because the character has local names: "Merlina" in Latin America, "Miércoles" in Spain, "Mercoledì" in Italy, "Wandinha" in Brazil and "Уэнсдэй" in Russian.
Who and what is in it?
There is one person to replace: Wednesday herself. The 15-second clip follows her through the dance:
- The close-up. Wednesday faces the camera with her dark bangs, braids and the black dress with its dark collar, the dancers blurred behind her.
- The dance. The jerky arm swings, the head snaps and the sideways shuffle, with the cuts of the original edit.
The other students in the background stay as they are.

- Press "Make the free preview" to see about 5 seconds at 480p with a small "vswp.app" mark; every new user gets one.
- Press "Create the full video". The price in Telegram Stars is shown before you start, and the Stars come back automatically if a render fails or is canceled. You get an MP4 at 480p or 720p with the original sound, typically in minutes.

Which photo works best?
- A front-facing face with a calm expression. Wednesday never smiles, and the clip opens on a tight close-up looking straight into the lens. A sharp, serious or neutral photo with both eyes visible matches her best.
- No sunglasses, hands or hair over the eyes. The bangs come from the costume when "Keep the original look" is on, so your photo only needs a clear face.
- Soft, even light. The scene is lit in cold blue; a daylight photo without hard shadows blends in better than one with a strong flash.
- One person per photo. Group shots make it harder to tell which face to use.
