What is the Puente de cempasúchil trend?
It is a short tribute posted for Día de Muertos, the Day of the Dead on November 1 and 2. In Mexican tradition the orange cempasúchil flower (Mexican marigold) lights the way for the souls who come back to visit their families, and the bridge made of its petals is the path between the two worlds. The souls who died in the last year are believed to cross it for the first time.
The clip turns that idea into a small animated film. The on-screen caption, in Spanish, asks viewers not to leave him alone, because it is his first time crossing the marigold bridge. People make their own version for a grandfather, a mother, a friend or anyone they lost this year, so that their loved one is the one crossing. It is searched as the Puente de cempasúchil trend, the marigold bridge AI video, the "primera vez cruzando el puente" video and the Día de Muertos AI tribute.
Where does the original video come from?
The format grew out of an earlier Día de Muertos custom on TikTok. In October 2025 Mexican media described the "Es su primer Día de Muertos" trend: people posted photos of relatives and pets who had died that year and asked others not to let them cross alone. This animated version, with a 3D cartoon character on the bridge and the real photo at the end, spread on Spanish-language TikTok in October 2026, just before the holiday. The warm animation and the bridge of petals recall Pixar's film "Coco" (2017), but the clip is not a scene from it. We could not confirm who made the very first version, so this page does not link a source. vswp added the trend on October 23, 2026.
Who and what is in it?
There is one person to replace, and they appear twice: as the animated figure on the bridge and as the real photograph on the altar. The clip runs about 12 seconds:
- The arrival. The camera starts close above the figure's head and pulls back: an older man in a dark cap, sunglasses and a patterned shirt stands on a bridge glowing orange, with other visitors in hats in the distance.
- The petals. He crouches, picks up a handful of marigolds and lifts them; the petals glow in his cupped hands like embers.
- The altar. The scene turns into an ofrenda: a photograph of the same person in an ornate gold frame, surrounded by candles, marigolds and butterflies in a warm glow.
The Spanish caption, the black borders and the soundtrack of the original stay in your version.
How to make the Puente de cempasúchil video with AI
- Open the Puente de cempasúchil trend and sign in with Telegram. There is no password.
- The person is already found. Give them one photo (JPEG, PNG or WebP): it is used both for the animated figure on the bridge and for the portrait in the frame.
- Press "Make the free preview" to see about 5 seconds at 480p with a small "vswp.app" mark; every new user gets one.
- Press "Create the full video". The price in Telegram Stars is shown before you start, and the Stars come back if a render fails or is canceled.
- Download the MP4 at 480p or 720p with the original sound, typically ready in minutes, and share it with your family or post it for the holiday.
By starting a video you confirm you have the right to use it and the photo. When the photo belongs to a family album, it is kind to check with the relatives who will see the tribute; see face swap consent and safety. More clips are in the trends list.
Which photo works best?
- A clear, front-facing portrait. The same photo becomes the framed picture on the altar, so choose one you would put on a real ofrenda: a face in focus, looking at the camera, evenly lit.
- One person in the photo. If the only good picture is a group shot, crop it to the person first; otherwise the wrong face can end up on the bridge.
- Old prints are fine. A scanned or re-photographed print works when the face is sharp; a tiny, blurry or heavily filtered image loses likeness.
- Expect the cartoon style on the bridge. The figure on the bridge keeps the clip's 3D animation and adapts the person's face, age and hair to it; the portrait at the end looks like a real photograph.
- Generative AI, not frame-exact editing. The opening close-up, the hands full of petals and the turn to the altar can sometimes need another take.
