A marriage proposal video works best as the opening act: a short scene that puts the two of you into your favorite film, your song's music video or a dance with your friends, played right before you ask the question in person. With [vswp](/) you pick a video from Trends or upload your own, add a photo of each of you, and AI swaps you in while the moves, camera, lighting and sound stay as in the original. The video takes minutes; the planning, the secrecy and the question itself are up to you.

## What role should the video play in a proposal?

Think of the video as the setup, not the proposal. It gets your partner's attention, makes them laugh or tear up, and tells them something special is happening. Then you put the phone down and ask.

There are good reasons to keep the question itself off the screen:

- **It should be your voice.** "Will you marry me?" lands differently from a person than from a clip.
- **The video has no text of its own.** vswp doesn't add captions, so any words on screen have to come from your phone's video editor.
- **AI is not frame-exact.** A ring box in close-up, hands opening it and a finger slipping into a ring are exactly the details that can need another take. Keep the real ring in your pocket, not in the video.

## Proposal video ideas

| Idea | Who is in it | Best moment to play it |
|---|---|---|
| The two of you in the film from your first date | You and your partner | At dinner, just before you ask |
| You as the couple in the music video of "your song" | You and your partner | At home, on the TV |
| Your partner as the star of a scene they love | Your partner | As a "small gift" that leads to the real one |
| A dance with your closest friends | You and up to 5 friends | At a party, when everyone is in on it |
| A movie-style "trailer" of your story | You and your partner | On a trip, at a view you both love |

A few things help these land:

- **Pick a scene with a happy ending.** A romantic finale, a celebration or a big dance. Avoid breakups and tragedies, even ironic ones.
- **Keep it short.** The processed part is up to 30 seconds, and that is plenty. The video builds the mood; the moment after it is what counts.

Use only a clip you have the right to use. For more on which couple scenes come out well, see [putting you and your partner into a romantic movie scene](/guides/couple-video-with-ai/).

## How do you keep it a secret?

The trickiest part is your partner's photo. Asking for "a photo for something" may give the plan away, so use a recent photo you already have: one you took yourself, or one they sent you. Pick one that is sharp, in good light, with only them in it and the whole face visible, without sunglasses.

Then decide on "Keep the original look":

- **On:** the clothes from the scene stay, and only faces and hair change. A clear portrait is enough. This suits tuxedos, dresses and costumes already in the clip.
- **Off:** clothes, hair and silhouette come from your photos. Use a full-body photo of each person; a portrait cannot show clothing it doesn't contain.

More tips are in [which photos work best for an AI video swap](/guides/best-photos-for-ai-video-swap/). If friends are in the video, they are in on the secret anyway: ask each of them for a photo and their OK. One video can use up to 6 different photos, and everyone without a photo stays as in the original.

## How to make the video, step by step

1. **Start at least a week early.** That leaves time for another take and for testing the screen where you'll play it.
2. **Sign in** at [vswp.app](/) with Telegram. There's no password, and your partner doesn't need an account.
3. **Pick the scene** from [Trends](/trend/) or upload your own clip: 1 to 120 seconds, up to 150 MB, any common format. For an upload, the person search runs on the first 30 seconds, usually in a couple of minutes, and it's free. In a longer video you can choose another part of up to 30 seconds.
4. **Add the photos** to the cards of the people they should replace. Main people come first; people seen briefly or far away are grouped as the background.
5. **Set the look** with "Keep the original look".
6. **Check the free preview.** If you haven't used yours, "Make the free preview" shows about 5 seconds at 480p with a small "vswp.app" mark, so you can check the faces first.
7. **Make the full video:** choose 480p or 720p, check the estimated time and the price, and press "Create the full video". Paid videos have no mark.
8. **Watch it closely.** If a face or a hand looks off, pressing "Create video" again makes a new take, which is a new render. Our guide on [hands, fast moves and crowds](/guides/hands-fast-moves-and-crowds-in-ai-swap/) explains what to expect.

## How do you show it?

You get an MP4 of the processed part with the original sound. Download it to your phone a day before, so you don't depend on the Wi-Fi at the restaurant. If you want a line on screen, such as your names and the date, add it in your phone's video editor.

- **At dinner:** hand over your phone, or ask the staff in advance to play it on a screen.
- **At home:** play it on the TV, then turn around with the ring.
- **With friends:** if they are in the video, they can be in the room too.

Show it to your partner first. Post it publicly only if they're happy with that, whatever their answer.

## What about consent and rules?

A proposal is a surprise, but it is still your partner's face. Use their photo only if you're sure they'd be fine with it, keep the video between the two of you until they say otherwise, and ask everyone else in it first. Pressing "Create video" confirms you have the right to use the video and the photos. Rules differ by country, and this is not legal advice; in the EU, the AI Act's disclosure rule for deepfakes applies from August 2026, so label the video as AI-made if you publish it. Read more in [face swap consent and safety](/guides/face-swap-consent-and-safety/).

## How much does it cost?

The free preview costs nothing; the number of free previews per day is limited, and the app says when the next one frees up. The full video is paid in Telegram Stars (⭐). The price depends on the length, the quality and the number of people you replace, and the exact price is shown before you start. Stars are taken when a render starts and returned automatically if it fails or is canceled.

## FAQ

### Can the video show me holding the ring?

It can try, but rings, hands and small objects are hard for generative AI and may need several takes. It's safer to let the video set the mood and bring the real ring yourself.

### Does my partner need to sign up?

No. Only you sign in with Telegram. Your partner just watches the finished MP4.

### Can our friends be in the proposal video?

Yes, up to 6 people per video with one photo each. Ask each friend for their photo and their OK; everyone else in the scene stays as in the original.

### Can I make it on my phone?

Yes. vswp works in the browser on phones and computers, and the finished MP4 can be saved or shared straight from your phone.

### What if my partner doesn't like the video?

Keep it private and delete it if they ask. The video is only the opening; what matters is the question you ask in person. For later, there are also [anniversary surprise video ideas](/guides/anniversary-surprise-video/) and [wedding video ideas](/guides/wedding-video-ideas-with-ai/).
